Laurie Burns considers herself very fortunate to be a glass artist. Her first path through life sent her on a journey through health care. First as a physical therapist and then as an administrator, whose creativity was applied to planning may different healthcare facilities. While still in her early twenties, Burns found that nothing in the medical world assuaged a growing restlessness of creativity. For many year she designed stained glass windows but her interests are now in the more challenging forms of warm glass art. A curiosity about the history and the many forms (liquid, solid, gas) of glass, fueled her mind and led to her current mastery of fused glass. Glass art is her chosen career allowing her thoughts and emotions through alternate realities. Along with her busy healthcare career, she opened her first glass business in 1978. Her studio is located near her home in Salt Lake City. Through the years this Utah resident has produced countless types of glass used in fascinating large and small artistic pieces in residential and commercial applications. |
